David Wallimann teaches the basic building block of all music theory, the interval. This lesson teaches the theory in relation to the guitar, however it will still apply to all instruments. To view more lessons in David Wallimann’s “Theory & Improvisation” series please visit : www.jamplay.com

About Scott

Been playing guitar semi-professionally since I was 15 years old. Have played 1000's of live shows with many different bands in many different music genres. I am a former guitar intructor who is convinced that you will learn faster and spend less money by learning through an online or downloaded course than by taking private lessons.

you said your 3rd from the root which in your diagram your 3rd was a c note. you played that c on the 3rd fret of the a string. is there any reason you didnt play it on the 6th fret of the E string? or is it just simply how u chose to arrange it

  6. ThinkingIsHard13 says:

His guitar looks like an alien

  7. ThinkingIsHard13 says:

I was thinking the same thing haha. I started on a normal guitar and then changed to floyd rose locking tremelo and still just figured it out and did it myself. Fuck paying somebody on top of buying the strings when it takes less than 30 mins to do it yourself

  12. tpawlowskis says:

oh lol by the way there is an H note on guitar, you take your string and use your pickup as a fret, known fact amongst few ;)

  13. tpawlowskis says:

you had my attention at “you dont need theory to play”. my old music teacher told me guitar players that dont know theory arent real players. I think he’s a tool, and your the man.

  14. James Goforth says:

hey element try to bring up relevant points maybe he’ll hire you to do his strings as hes probably gots lots of money, not everyone is broke like you

  15. James Goforth says:

Good point been wondering why everyone talks about theory so much hey if your dedicated you do not need it glad you said that

  16. Billy4269 says:

this shit made learning what octaves and everything are so fucking easy, i watched so many videos on this shit and everyone is retarded, i got a little confused with that diagram but i wrote it down and it took me a minute to get it but once i did it was easy. also if anyoe is still confused on what an octave is use your tuner when you play the scale and you will see the root and the octave are the same note

  17. Ryan McNab says:
