Hi Dave How you come you prefer to record to a channel in real time as opposed to bouncing to disk? Cheers
I think my english is worst, but you speak understandable for everyone, love greetings from Germany, dear Mr Pensado,…I´ll watch the whole Episode, i think its very informatory,
What kind of analyzer is that. I really would like to know. I’m looking for a extrenal one
Keep up the good work.
Lol yea but are you worried about his camera quality or his mixing skills…he’s here to help you
Oh good. I’ll have to try that myself. Thanks for the info.
he works on individual tracks, then prints to stem… it’s more efficient that way… saves cpu and clears clutter.
I’m new to Pensado’s place. I’m enjoying the videos. I was wondering how Dave works his session. From what I am seeing he is printing down groups like drums and guitars etc, and then works on those stems as opposed to working each individual tracks? I’ve seen people in Post-production do the same kind of thing with DME
das how we roll@ the tweaking hehe 6:30 thanks Dave!
wow what an awesome man you are sr. Thank you for your share! This world need more generous skillful people like you!
I’ve watched this Video like 20 times….learning something New every time well this one and 4!!
but i love this shit…Im soo Blessed to be able to watch this videos yall just dont KNow!!!!!
HAHA I love that Dave har LAVA LAMPS in every studio of his!!! This guy has random comments about everything, gotta love it!! thanks for everything Dave:) great details!! keep it coming ^^
pretty informative stuff, but dont you mix all the major stuff on your ssl console ? Would be interesting seeing you this.
Fun to watch a real PRO in action – even though most of the music he engineers/produces is in no way my cup’a'tea I can dig this peek into a professional studio. And Pensado seems like a really cool dude!!
My only real complaint is that the sound examples are kind’a useless in a youtube vid – listening to differences in compression techniques on a youtube video gives very little insight into the subtle nuances Pensado points out. I wish they could upload the clips in lossless formate on the net.
I think he records to disk instead of bouncing to disk,if you don’t know what it is,search it on youtube “recording to disk in pro tools” and click on the first clip.
what do you mean when you says that he prefers recording his “2 track” rather then “bouncing” to disk?? Please specify.
If anyone could clarify this for me I would appreciate it
Thank you
This is about as HD as a Charlie Chaplin film.
what kinda of mouse / jog wheel do you use i really dig it
Does this 48-Bit fader thing only work in TDM/HD systems or can I use it on my native PT9? Thanks again Dave & team
” Because that’s how I roll ” HaHa !! Love this dude !!
Dave is the man. I don’t know anybody else who does THIS. Hats off sir
Dave – Do you see a place for a BBE Sonic Maximizer in a “mix” or “master”? or are the just fluff? Curious. Your the Bomb! cuz that how you roll…..Peace!
is that monitor a u2711 or a u3011?
SNAPSHOT AUTOMATING ! YOU ARE DEFINITELY MY HERO !
love your work .
How humble of this man – a full blown mixing professional – is saying he is willing to learn from ANYONE! Dave seems to be a regular guy who just so happens to be a major player in the biz. Good stuff doc…you are appreciated by the ones of us striving to be better at what we do in/for/to music!
Hymn
The more you watch it the more it starts to make sense, take note of the settings he is using which is transferrable across to similar plug ins
Imagine if this was your day job. It would be awesome as you could work in your undies all day
nice
‘The gain goes down, but adjust it yourself’ hahaha. Awesome Dave, always enjoying these.
Which version of pro tools you use
MUCH LOVE!
Also, the API is a real Master Piece! It “Intelligently” controls the “Q” curves. Therefor giving you a wider range at lower frequencies & a narrower range at higher frequencies.
I think it’s pretty save to say that the reason why Dave chooses different EQ’s for the Low or High sections of an audio signal is because of the difference in characteristics. Especially when it comes to Waves plug-ins. There is a reason why these costs a fortune! They give you a very similar signal processing ability, emulated from the original analog hardware versions. Meaning, while the Puigtec EQ adds more “Harmonics” to an certain area, the API EQ adds more “Color” to the processed signal.
He uses alot of different plugins to do similar things. I really want to understand why he chooses specific plugins for his sounds. I don’t have many plugins, but for example, I have like 5 EQs and If I wanted to do something as simple as a high boost, I’d use similar EQs. It seems like Dave has alot, but in this example, pretty much each track had different sets of plugins. Anyone care to enlighten me?
God Bless You Dave
Thank you for you time! Cheers!
Most of the virtual effects he uses are in RTSP/AU/VST version so you should be able to use them
3:01 makes my day :D
Do I have to use Pro tool or can this work on Ableton?
The greatest show in d world 4 producers
haha pause your “tape” thank you for this though.
i luv this show
Great video learn alot thanks
I don`t know about this… I tend to use the same kind of Waves Limiters, Compressors, Overdrives and whatnot and I`ve noticed that my mixes get too crowded. The frequencies tend to overlapse and I get a bit of distorsion here and there. Of course, I need to EQ the hell out of every track of the mix to figure out what is conflicting.. Okay, long story short, I`ve always thought that I needed some hardware to work out the bugs that come with software plugins… You only seem to use soft VSTs…
The “synth bass” section of the Waves Maserati bass module does to the bass something very similar to what Dave did in this vid.
Good ITL, I learned a lot about eq’ing different elements in a mix from this.
hey this is awesome, thanks!
U know what, whenever you read SOS and other articles, you never get to actually hear the before so it loses so much context. This… this is perfect.
I have the same posture when working. It really worries me…..
when he turned off the distortion on the bass i went like: Ahhhh nice! and got freaked out by the fact that he did the exact same thing like one half sec after me. haha
